The Psycho Sensei Rebuilds Her Law Practice

The time has come for Psycho Sensei to rebuild her law practice. Besides the obvious monetary reasons, I actually enjoy Internet Law, and it's about time to dive back in and get back to moving and shaking. So, what does one do when one decides to essentially start from scratch?

Well, the first thing I did was look for ways to market the new firm, letting people know that we exist so that they will sign on with us. A logical place to start (to me, anyway) was to take a look through Google and see what I could come up with regarding directories I could add myself to, or other marketing online marketing methods I could use. Here is where I became simultaneously confused and annoyed.

Think about the people who need Internet and Intellectual Property attorneys. They are generally people who are highly technologically literate, usually business people whose time is VERY important to them, and they generally do not want their time wasted. One could extrapolate from that that the attorneys who service this type of client would also be technologically literate, who generally also do not wish their time wasted.

How ironic, given this type of a demographic, that the vast majority of these directory sites want you to CALL FOR INFORMATION! What a waste of time! If you are going to tout the technological prowess of your attorneys to their clients, shouldn't you demonstrate that they can USE that technology by having methods of signing onto your directory ONLINE?

Telephone calls, by their very nature, waste time. You are often "treated" to a sales pitch script, pleasantries, and otherwise time wasting "so would you like to sign up today" nonsense rather than having the information you are looking for in clear, concise form online where you can read it at your leisure and make up your own mind without having to deal with sales pressure. This is precisely why so many people use the Internet for business transactions rather than telephones.

If any marketers are listening, GET WITH THE PROGRAM! Technology lawyers and those who wish to find them, generally want to use TODAY'S technology to find them, not the technology of the 1930s.
